Dancing With The Stars-Gender Norms

Sally Raskoff states, “Gender norms include standards of behaviors and appearance that feed the traits we expect from each gender.” Men are supposed to be powerful while women are supportive of men. Thus showing that men hold the power in society. When looking at the show, dancing with the stars, the contestants who “conform to traditional societal definitions of gender stay the longest and get the highest scores from the judges”. Also, the outfits that the contestants wear reinforce traditional gender norms. The women are barely clothed while the men wear suits. Raskoff says that sometimes the power of the women is seen during the dance numbers. But, most of the time the men take the power back before the performance ends.
