ReplyDeleteI think that it still is confusing and controversial on why Thomas is continuing to have children. It would look like he is confused about his identity still, but their situation is new and uncomfortable to our standards of expected gender roles. What is sad is that their business went under because of this publicity, they had to move and the comments on these articles are so heartless and cruel it's depressing.
ReplyDeleteToday in class I felt that the Oprah segment was severely uncomfortable. I thought Oprah was being condescending, rude, deliberately harsh and made herself look ignorant by her attitude, tone of voice, posture and snide comments. If she was offended by the scenario of a pregnant transgender person coming on, she should have said NO to the whole idea and not trying to get amazing ratings and attention. I felt Thomas was disrespected and it was uncomfortable to see Oprah questioning his sex because he wasn't "fully" a man.
i think thomas is a trasgender that doesent know which role to play because he continues to have babies. if he supposedly is a man, then man shouldnt have babies so its an insult to the trans comunity i believe because hes not deciding either to be a man or a woman. he can say he is a man but only on paper in real life and for nature he is still a woman that just changed her appearance to look like a male.

This picture struck me as peculiar because it blurred out his chest, which you would not have found if it were a picture of any other man.

This article goes into far greater detail about the science behind Thomas Beatie’s transformation. Although I am not against a person having the choice to do with their lives how they see fit, I find myself asking at what point will society believe that we have gone too far in trying to restructure gender roles through science?
ReplyDeleteI think it is a very normal thing. Like woman like to get back into shape after post pregnancy, thomas Beatie too decided to shed the baby flab.
